Does the following diagnosis scare you?
Boy, Born June 2004 From his medical records: Spina bifida; congenital defect of central nervous system; Arnold-Chiari syndrome; Lower paraparesis; combined hydrocephaly
Does it make you turn away and say, "Poor child, but I couldn't possibly handle his needs, I couldn't be his Mama?"
If so, please reconsider! At least give this beautiful boy a second look!
This is Carter...
Isn't he handsome?
Doesn't he look like a sweet little school boy?
But, you say, "What about the central nervous system problem? Surely he couldn't learn in school!"
But wait! Did you notice the rest of his profile?
From his caregivers: The boy is very smart, friendly, and communicative. He wants be adopted.
VERY SMART...
FRIENDLY...
COMMUNICATIVE...
He WANTS to be adopted!
But, you say, "How can I handle a child who can't walk? That's what 'paraparesis' means right?"
Check out this picture!
He can walk!
Please consider Carter!
There is hope for him!
He will make you proud!
Are you his Mama?
Please read what Emma's Mama wrote about Carter...
She met him IN PERSON!
(Now don't let that scary-sounding post title scare you! This is a beautiful post about Carter...
...and how labels can be deceiving!)
