Reece's Rainbow

I just found Kelly's Korner Blog in a Facebook comment...

Her post today is about her favorite charities...

It's a link-up encouraging folks to link up posts about their favorite charities!

Since I have one I just had to share!

As my regular readers know, one of my favorite charities is Reece's Rainbow!

For those of you new to my blog I'd like to let you know a little more about this wonderful charity!

Reece's Rainbow was started by Andrea, the mother of a sweet little boy named Reece!

Now Reece is an extra special little boy...

He has something extra that many children don't have - an extra copy of chromosome 21...

More commonly known as Down syndrome.

Andrea found out first hand just how wonderful and precious children with Down syndrome are!

When she learned that children with Down syndrome born in other parts of the world are often sent to orphanages as babies...

And then to mental institutions for life at the age of 4 or 5 years old...

Where sometimes even teenagers are confined to cribs to rot until they die...

Where conditions are so bad that many children die within the first year of arriving there...

She was horrified!

She knew she had to try to make a difference!

So she started Reece's Rainbow, named after her own beautiful son...

To raise awareness and grant funds to help make it possible for these abandoned children to find loving families!

In the first 5 years since Reece's Rainbow began, over 500 of these orphans with Down syndrome found families!

Instead of rotting in mental institutions...

These precious children have found happy homes...

Where they receive the love and care and the opportunity to learn that all children deserve!

You can read the story of  Reece's Ranbow HERE!

Below are just a few of the precious children Reece's Rainbow seeks to help!

You can learn more about these children or donate to their grant funds by clicking on their names below their pictures.

Reece's Rainbow also lists children with needs other than down syndrome...

They all need families!

I could go on and on...

There are so many wonderful children...

Who are just waiting for a family to love them as the treasures they really are!

You can see more of these children by going to the link below...

And selecting an age category!

Please do visit the link...

And see the children for yourself!

There are many ways to help!

One of the easiest is sharing the need with others by use of blogs, facebook, twitter, e-mail!

If you are able you can make a tax deductible donation to the child of your choice to help a family afford the costs of international adoption.

If you are looking for a place to start...

The three children listed below have a $500 matching grant opportunity going on from now through Oct. 31....

If we are able to raise $500 for each child, they will each receive an additional $500 from a generous anonymous donor!

(You can click on their names to donate or read more about them.)

For those who are religious, prayers are free, and one of the most important ways to help!

There may be some of you who could adopt one of these treasures as your own!

Before you say no, look at their pictures...

You just might be missing a son or daughter!

You can learn more about adoption at the link below:

Before I go...

I want to share just two more children that are extra special to me...

This is Emmitt...

He is almost 15 years old...

Despite being confined to a crib for years...

He is described as "sweet, intelligent, and kind"!

Children in his country are often sent to mental institutions even if their needs are mostly physical like Emmitt's...

Emmitt has spina bifida...

He has no need to be in such a place!

He needs the opportunity to go to school...

He needs the mobility of a wheelchair instead of  the confinement of a crib...

He needs physical therapy to help him maximize his abilities...

He needs a family love him and help him to be all that he can be!

He has just over a year to be adopted...

When he turns 16 it will be to late (according to US adoption rules)...

I long to see him delivered from that awful crib!

Please consider Emmitt!

*****

Then there is Victoria...

She is almost 10 years old.

She has such a beautiful smile despite spending much of her time in bed!

In institutions the children's hair is often shaved to make it easier to care for :(

Victoria has arthrogryposis...

A condition that made some of her joints stiff and difficult to use.

It is mainly her legs that are affected...

With medical attention available in the US, she could likely learn to walk...

She just needs the opportunity!

Children with arthrogryposis are usually of normal intelligence...

Though orphanage life and lack of education can cause some delays to any child...

Victoria needs a chance!

Is she yours?

Reece's Rainbow's biggest fundraiser of the year is just around the corner...

From November 1 - December 31  the goal is to raise $1000 for all the children ages 0-5 with Down syndrome...

You can help by choosing a child to raise funds for and becoming his her "Angel Tree Warrior"...

Or by donating any amount to one of the waiting "angel tree" children...

Those who donate $35 or more to a child on the angel tree (beginning Nov. 1)

Will receive a beautiful Christmas ornament with your child's picture on it to hang on your tree!

Even if we can't save them all (the need is SOOO great)...

We can save some...

And for every one we do save...

It truly will make a difference!

Reece's Rainbow makes a difference for children every day!
