Similarities and Differences

Two pictures...

Look at them closely...

Do you see any similarities?

The same wallpaper...

The same pipe in the background...

The same little beds...

Both children have shaved heads...

They both can use their hands...

But neither can walk...

What you can't tell from the pictures...

Both are waiting for families...

Both have been transferred from their baby house to a mental institution...

Both were born in December 2002 - only 4 days apart!

Victoria was born on December 12 and Colin on December 16...

They could almost be twins!

They will be 10 years old in December this year...

But they don't have a family to celebrate with :(

*****

Now look again...

What differences do you see?

On the left is Colin...

He has a blank expression on his face...

A bored and lonely look...

Hopeless eyes...

No smile...

It gives you the impression that he knows he is not loved...

He knows that no one cares...

He thinks he will never be noticed, wanted or loved so why should he smile?

(I wish he had a better picture - it is possible they just caught him at the wrong moment!  I'd love to see him smile!)

On the right is Victoria...

With a bright cheerful smile!

Happy eyes...

There is even sunshine on the wall behind her!

She looks like she has hope and happiness despite her life in a mental institution!

How important do you suppose the differences in these pictures are?

How much difference does a smile make?

Is there a difference in the amount of advocacy each child receives?

Does one receive more notice than the other?

Does one have a better chance of being chosen by a prospective family?

Is there a difference in the number of donations to these children's adoption grant funds?

If there is a difference...

How big would you guess it to be?

Take a look...

Colin has $35 in his fund...

Victoria has $3,500.10!!!!

That is a ONE HUNDRED fold difference in funds!

I am SO HAPPY for Victoria...

But sad for Colin...

Who will notice him?

Who will look into his eyes and tell him...

Son, you are valuable and precious!

There IS hope for you!

You CAN smile again!

There IS a life outside your bed!

I KNOW your family is out there...

And I will help them find you!

Colin NEEDS our voice!

He is in SERIOUS danger of being overlooked!

Of being lost in a mental institution FOREVER....

Of spending day after hopeless day staring at the four walls...

With each passing day confirming to him...

THE LIE...

That he is not special...

That his life doesn't matter...

That he has no value :(

Please NOTICE Colin!

IMAGINE the difference if he just had a family!

Can you see him with a beautiful smile...

With hope in his eyes...

When he knows he is loved and will be valued forever?

Look into his eyes...

Imagine his life now...

Tell him you will do at least ONE thing for him today to show that he DOES have value!

ONE thing to make a difference in his life...

ONE thing to give him HOPE of being seen and chosen!

You don't have to be wealthy to make a difference!

Even small donations help his fund to grow...

If many of us give a little...

His fund really CAN grow a lot!

You can share his story for FREE on Facebook, Twitter, or your blog or e-mail...

If he can just get exposure...

If his face can be seen by many...

Maybe one of them will be his Mom or Dad!

And please pray, Pray, PRAY!

God can make the biggest difference!

Pray He will draw the attention of Colin's Mom and Dad to his picture...

That they will see his great need and KNOW that he is their son!

Pray they will have courage to step out and claim him as their own!

Is God tugging at your heart?

Is it even remotely possible that Colin could be your son?

Could you be the one to put a smile on his face...

The one privileged to watch him blossom and grow...

The one that lets him know he is of great value...

And will be loved and cherished forever in your heart?

If there is even a chance he could be yours...

Please click this link to learn more about adoption!

Even if you can't be Colin's Mom or Dad...

Please know that no effort is too small to make a difference!

God can take our little efforts and use them to create a miracle for Colin!

Won't you do One thing today for Colin?

Together we can make a difference!

Please pray and share!

You can read more about Colin or make a tax-deductible donation to his adoption fund HERE.

If you do donate to Colin by Oct. 31, you will be eligible to enter a toy giveaway hosted by Jenny...

If you would like to be entered, be sure to let her know you donated by commenting on her blog HERE!

She has the lofty goal of getting as many of the waiting children aged 6 or older to $100 in their grant funds by Oct. 31 - and time is running out!

*****

Despite her Beautiful smile...

And $3,500 grant fund...

Victoria is still waiting for a family :(

Please notice her too!

What joy she could bring to a family!

You can read more about Victoria HERE

Colin and Victoria could even be adopted together!

*****

And dear Emmitt has only FIFTEEN months to find a family :(

He MUST find a family before his 16th birthday or it will be too late :(

He needs out of those bars!

Can you spread the word?

Three opportunities and a possible bonus!

3 Precious children...

With at least 3 things in common...

1. No family

2. Arthrogryposis

3. $500 MATCHING grant!

*****

1

No family...

No Mom and Dad to call their own...

No Mom and Dad to tuck them in at night and help them say their prayers...

No Mom and Dad to help them with their homework...

No Mom and Dad to love and cherish them...

No Mom and Dad to tell them how very special they are!

*****

2

Arthrogryposis...

This basically means they have some stiff joints...

They have limited motion in some parts of the body...

Depending on what part of the body is affected this may mean they cannot walk (at this time) or have difficulty using their hands.

Medical treatment available in the US can sometimes make it possible for these children to walk and improve their independence!

They just need that chance!

*****

3

$500 MATCHING GRANT!!!!!

EACH of these precious children is being offered a $500 matching grant between now and October 31!

If we can raise $500...

A generous donor will give them $500 more!

There is a catch...

The FULL $500 must be raised in order for the match to be made!

Let's show the donor that these children are loved and supported!

Let's not leave them behind!

*****

BONUS

These grants were offered in honor of Rita...

Rita also has arthrogryposis...

Until this week she did not have a family either...

When the matching offer was made Rita did not have a grant fund to donate to...

So the matching offer for Elizaveta, Aubree, and Raymond were made in her honor!

The donor has said that if ALL THREE matches are met...

There may be a bonus donation to Rita's family's adoption fund (once it is set up)...

To help them bring Rita HOME!

Now that would be a win times Four!!!

*****

Now meet the children...

I've included some hi-lights below...

You can read MORE about them by clicking on their names under their pictures below!

Despite her sad face in the pictures, Elizaveta is said to be smart, happy, and social...

She tries to be independent and she goes to school!

Elizaveta currently has $100 in her fund...

If she gets to $600 by Oct. 31...

She will receive her $500 matching grant...

Bringing her to a total of $1,100!!!

Let's meet the match!

Aubree is said to "exude love and happiness"!!!

Her arms are strong and she uses them to pull herself around on the floor and to drive her wheelchair.

She likes to sing - and even sang in a concert for the visitors...

She is able to go to school too!

What a lovely daughter she will make...

Where is her family?

Currently she has $115 in her grant fund...

If she gets to $615 by Oct. 31...

She will receive her $500 match...

Which will bring her to $1,115 to help a family bring her home!

*****

Poor little Raymond is not in school...

He is in bed and is in danger of being there all his life...

If he doesn't find a family :(

We just CAN'T let that happen, can we?

Raymond's fund needs to be at $1,700 by Oct. 31 in order for him to get his $500 match...

At the present time he has $1,225.10...

If the match is met he will  be at $2,200!!!

Let's get him their!

With his sad little picture I fear he is often overlooked...

He need's all the help and exposure he can get!!!

*****

Rita can walk and is developing well where she is now...

But she was getting close to the age where she would be too "old" for her orphanage...

She would soon have been sent to an ADULT instiution
(Though she's only 7 1/2 years old right now)...

But thankfully for Rita...

Her family just found her THIS week...

They are working on the adoption paperwork so they can bring her HOME!

Soon her family will have a fund to donate to...

But until then...

Let's get those matching grants raised!!!!

This opportunity is too good to pass up!

Let's not let these kids lose this matching opportunity!

These kids NEED us!!!!

Even if you can't donate at this time...

There are other ways to help that are just as important!

You can share this matching opportunity with others...

You can share these children's faces and their stories...

Facebook, Twitter, Blog, E-mail, Word of Mouth...

You never know if one of your friends or acquaintances might be their family!

And most important of all you can pray!

*****

Oh, and don't rule out the possibility...

That one of them just might be YOUR child!

To learn more about how to adopt click on the link below:

*****

In whatever way you can...

Please help them!!!

They need our voice!

Details of this matching opportunity are from Arthrogryposis Adoption blog...

Please read more on their blog at the link below...

By the way...

The faster these matches get met...

The bigger the bonus donation to Rita will be!

Meet it today - she gets a lot...

Meet it at the last minute on Oct. 31...

And Rita gets LESS...

Hurry!  we have some matching to do!!!

Forget Me Not Fridays

And consider adding a post of your own to the link-up!

Reece's Rainbow

I just found Kelly's Korner Blog in a Facebook comment...

Her post today is about her favorite charities...

It's a link-up encouraging folks to link up posts about their favorite charities!

Since I have one I just had to share!

As my regular readers know, one of my favorite charities is Reece's Rainbow!

For those of you new to my blog I'd like to let you know a little more about this wonderful charity!

Reece's Rainbow was started by Andrea, the mother of a sweet little boy named Reece!

Now Reece is an extra special little boy...

He has something extra that many children don't have - an extra copy of chromosome 21...

More commonly known as Down syndrome.

Andrea found out first hand just how wonderful and precious children with Down syndrome are!

When she learned that children with Down syndrome born in other parts of the world are often sent to orphanages as babies...

And then to mental institutions for life at the age of 4 or 5 years old...

Where sometimes even teenagers are confined to cribs to rot until they die...

Where conditions are so bad that many children die within the first year of arriving there...

She was horrified!

She knew she had to try to make a difference!

So she started Reece's Rainbow, named after her own beautiful son...

To raise awareness and grant funds to help make it possible for these abandoned children to find loving families!

In the first 5 years since Reece's Rainbow began, over 500 of these orphans with Down syndrome found families!

Instead of rotting in mental institutions...

These precious children have found happy homes...

Where they receive the love and care and the opportunity to learn that all children deserve!

You can read the story of  Reece's Ranbow HERE!

****

Below are just a few of the precious children Reece's Rainbow seeks to help!

You can learn more about these children or donate to their grant funds by clicking on their names below their pictures.

Reece's Rainbow also lists children with needs other than down syndrome...

They all need families!

I could go on and on...

There are so many wonderful children...

Who are just waiting for a family to love them as the treasures they really are!

You can see more of these children by going to the link below...

And selecting an age category!

Please do visit the link...

And see the children for yourself!

*****

There are many ways to help!

One of the easiest is sharing the need with others by use of blogs, facebook, twitter, e-mail!

If you are able you can make a tax deductible donation to the child of your choice to help a family afford the costs of international adoption.

If you are looking for a place to start...

The three children listed below have a $500 matching grant opportunity going on from now through Oct. 31....

If we are able to raise $500 for each child, they will each receive an additional $500 from a generous anonymous donor!

(You can click on their names to donate or read more about them.)

For those who are religious, prayers are free, and one of the most important ways to help!

There may be some of you who could adopt one of these treasures as your own!

Before you say no, look at their pictures...

You just might be missing a son or daughter!

You can learn more about adoption at the link below:

Before I go...

I want to share just two more children that are extra special to me...

This is Emmitt...

He is almost 15 years old...

Despite being confined to a crib for years...

He is described as "sweet, intelligent, and kind"!

Children in his country are often sent to mental institutions even if their needs are mostly physical like Emmitt's...

Emmitt has spina bifida...

He has no need to be in such a place!

He needs the opportunity to go to school...

He needs the mobility of a wheelchair instead of  the confinement of a crib...

He needs physical therapy to help him maximize his abilities...

He needs a family love him and help him to be all that he can be!

He has just over a year to be adopted...

When he turns 16 it will be to late (according to US adoption rules)...

I long to see him delivered from that awful crib!

Please consider Emmitt!

*****

Then there is Victoria...

She is almost 10 years old.

She has such a beautiful smile despite spending much of her time in bed!

In institutions the children's hair is often shaved to make it easier to care for :(

Victoria has arthrogryposis...

A condition that made some of her joints stiff and difficult to use.

It is mainly her legs that are affected...

With medical attention available in the US, she could likely learn to walk...

She just needs the opportunity!

Children with arthrogryposis are usually of normal intelligence...

Though orphanage life and lack of education can cause some delays to any child...

Victoria needs a chance!

Is she yours?

*****

Reece's Rainbow's biggest fundraiser of the year is just around the corner...

From November 1 - December 31  the goal is to raise $1000 for all the children ages 0-5 with Down syndrome...

You can help by choosing a child to raise funds for and becoming his her "Angel Tree Warrior"...

Or by donating any amount to one of the waiting "angel tree" children...

Those who donate $35 or more to a child on the angel tree (beginning Nov. 1)

Will receive a beautiful Christmas ornament with your child's picture on it to hang on your tree!

Even if we can't save them all (the need is SOOO great)...

We can save some...

And for every one we do save...

It truly will make a difference!

Reece's Rainbow makes a difference for children every day!
